HONOURED: Retired civil service chief says integrity was the most important attribute of public servants
MALACCA: FORMER Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan was conferred an honorary Doctorate of Management at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka's (UTeM) eighth convocation ceremony here yesterday.
Sidek headed the list of 1,862 graduates who received their scrolls from UTeM Chancellor Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob, who was also the Yang Dipertua Negeri, at the university's campus in Durian Tunggal.
Sidek was honoured for his contributions to the civil service and the country. Sidek retired as the 12th chief secretary to the government in June and is currently the chairman of Petronas.
In his speech, he said integrity was the most important attribute of every public servant.
"Integrity is something that cannot be compromised.
"Every public servant should protect and strengthen the integrity of the public service."
Present were UTeM's pro-chancellor Dr Johari Mat and and vice-chancellor Prof Dr Ahmad Yusoff Hassan.
UTeM also awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Educational Information Technology to the rector of Dian Nuswantoro University, Indonesia, Dr Ir Edi Noersasongko.
Executive chairman of Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd, Datuk Seri Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh, received an Honorary Doctorate in Entrepreneurship.
The convocation also saw the awarding of the Royal Education Award to Bachelor of Electronic Engineering graduate Nabilah Zainul Ariffin Khairul, 24, from Kajang, Selangor, and Bachelor of Computer Science (Software Development) graduate, S. Loganesh, 25, from Kuala Lumpur.
